´╗┐Women in Iran are often porterayed as victims - helplessly unable to stand up and claim their own rights.

Women in Iran face widespread discrimination under the law. They do not enjoy equal rights to men in areas such as marriage, divorce, child custody and inheritance. 

 Background information

 

A Prisoner of Conscience (PoC) is someone held solely for the peaceful exercise of his or her rights to freedom of expression and association. PoCs are generally arrested in connection to their work or involvement in organisations promoting human rights.
