Thank you for your interest in working with Amnesty International Ireland.

Amnesty International is a democratic worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognised human rights to be respected and protected for everyone. We believe human rights abuses anywhere are the concern of people everywhere. Outraged by human rights abuses but inspired by hope for a better world, we work to improve people’s lives through campaigning and international solidarity.

When you get a job at Amnesty International, you’re working for people whose human rights are under attack. If you are talented, passionate about human rights and want to use your skills and experience to change the world then we might just have the right role for you.

Our commitment to diversity, inclusion and wellbeing

Human rights must be our identity, not only our demand. Amnesty International must always live the values we advocate for others. And we must do this more authentically and visibly, as a resolutely anti-racist and anti-sexist organisation.

Racism and sexism present a clear and present threat to our human rights mandate: to our staff, to our members and to our ability to carry out our work. Whilst there are no easy fixes, we must create and sustain appreciative, and empowering working environments across our movement, in which everyone is able to thrive and feels valued and respected. We must be rights, to do rights better.

Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International

Wellbeing

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment that prioritises the mental health and wellbeing of our movement.

Accessibility

We are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive work environment to enable people with a disability, caring or parenting responsibilities to fully participate in all aspects of employment. If you require any adjustments or accommodations during the recruitment process or require an alternative format to any of the job application material, please contact positions{at}amnesty.ie

Do you have advice on the application process?

In order to facilitate fair and consistent shortlisting process, we ask all candidates to complete our application form and send it to [email protected]

Please note that we assess applications solely on the merit of the information provided through the application form and therefore do not accept CVs or other further submissions through email or post.

Do answer every question thoroughly in the application form as we need this information to consider your suitability.

As part of the pre-employment checks required before you start your new role, we ask you to provide the contact details of your two most recent professional referees. One referee must be your current / most recent employer and the other should be your previous employer. We will not approach your referees without your permission.

Please note, our recruitment process takes on average 20 – 30 days.

We try to communicate with all applicants. However, due to the high number of applications we sometimes receive, we are not always able to answer individual queries or respond to unsuccessful candidates. If you have not been contacted within 6 weeks of the closing date, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful.

If you are not available for any stages of the process for any reason, for example, pre-arranged holidays, we may not be able to process your application as alternative dates may not be available.

What do I do if a suitable role is not advertised?

We recommend that you check our live vacancies on a regular basis and apply for roles that are a suitable match when they come up. You can also keep up with us on LinkedIn where we post most vacancies.

What are the arrangements for interviews?

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by phone or email to reserve an interview slot.

We will confirm if this is to be a remote interview conducted by phone or video and will work with you to ensure we have the correct connection in place, or if the interview is to take place in person.

You may be asked to take practical online tests to assess your technical ability to perform in the role. Some tests may require advance preparation but please be advised that this is usually not the case.

We endeavour to provide you with feedback on your interview performance and tests on request and we will let you know when we have a decision about your application.

Following an offer of employment, we will conduct pre-employment checks only when you give us your permission to proceed. This relates to your right to work, any relevant background checks and contacting your two most recent professional referees.

Can I make an application if I have a disability?

Of course. Equality and diversity are at the core of our values. All employees will work collectively and individually to promote a constructive and sensitive approach to others from a variety of backgrounds, where the work of others is valued and respected. Please do flag to the recruitment team if you require any adjustments to the assessment process by contacting [email protected] and the team will work with you to make any necessary reasonable adjustments to enable fair selection. Once recruited for a role, we will assess your needs and make reasonable adjustments around your disability to enable you to work successfully.

Are internships a route to employment?

We highly value the contribution our interns provide for Amnesty International, but we emphasise that this is not a guaranteed entry in to paid staff work with our organisation.

Some of our current employees have previously completed internships for Amnesty International or similar organisations and it is an experience that will be of great value to you should you wish to start a career in this field.

What will you do with the data that is collected throughout the recruitment process?

Amnesty International Ireland is committed to the responsible handling of personal information collected as part of the recruitment process. Information provided by you in connection with your application will only be used by Amnesty internally in relation to recruitment and selection processes and will not be disclosed to a third party without your consent, except as required by law and except to our service provider (see our Privacy Policy for more details).
